Improving water and sanitation access while reaching Millennium Development Goals
In an effort to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals in Tanzania, the European Investment Bank appointed us as Lenders’ Supervisor to ensure sewerage, sanitation, and waste water treatment avenues would be expanded upon and upgraded with the specific objective of improving living conditions for the city of Mwanza, its satellite towns (Misungwi, Magu, Lamadi), and neighboring towns Bukoba and Musoma.
Improving the water and sanitation in Lake Victoria Basin’s secondary centers requires on-going, global and pro-active assessment of progress and risks to ensure high level monitoring of Mwanza, it’s satellites and neighboring towns, which are associated with Mwanza’s water utilities to varying degrees. To safeguard the success of this project, we are continually providing reviews of project implementation, as well as monitoring procurement to assure that it is in accordance with lenders’ guidelines and Tanzanian law.
Upon project completion, approximately half of the project area’s 1 million inhabitants will benefit from either improved water or sanitation access.
