Improving patient care by improving the facilities and systems with state-of-the-art automation equipment to increase testing volumes and efficiency
Delivering top-level medical care is aided by a top-level facility. The new Clinical Laboratory Replacement Project at the New Stanford and Lucile Packard Children’s Replacement Hospitals is that facility. As the architects and laboratory planners, our primary objective was to establish a highly efficient, LEAN laboratory operation and to provide state-of-the-art automated equipment to increase testing volumes and accuracy.
To effectively link the new clinical lab to the various buildings, the project includes upgrades and modernization to the pneumatic tube system. This system allows more samples to be transported more quickly, allowing faster processing and diagnosis, enhancing the quality of care. Other upgrades support related diagnostic laboratories including molecular, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, microbiology, flow cytometry, blood gas and bone marrow, and associated support spaces.
The project was constructed in phases to allow the existing lab to remain operational throughout the construction.
Services for this project were completed by the employees of GL Planning & Design prior to their employment at Stantec.
