A multi-phased renovation to offer students a diverse selection of dining options
The Kutztown University of Pennsylvania wanted to improve their students’ on-campus dining experience—to adapt current facilities to the modern student population and create a diverse selection of dining areas.
Our team took a multi-phased approach to the renovation. In phase one, we revitalized the existing multi-story space to create a dynamic environment. Students could appreciate some art in the gallery, take in a performance, relax in the lounge, or grab a latte at the Starbucks.
The second phase remodeled and added to the existing North Campus dining hall with a “Return to Home” theme—creating unique spaces inspired by the comforts of home. For example, the nook has pendant lighting and a large, built-in banquet, and the porch has floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor furniture.
Lastly, the third phase renovated the main dining facility, South Dining Hall. Our team divided the large, open space into two sections: a lounge and a dining room. These two spaces were connected by an elevated soft seating area around a large fireplace, the perfect centerpiece for social activities.
With these changes, Kutztown University has created a signature dining experience that will attract new students, encourage socialization, and promote school pride.
