Inspired by the energy and passion of the Bucknell community, we focused on building creative and warm spaces
Bucknell University wanted a space that encouraged exploration and collaboration, a place with opportunities to be creative and useable nook spaces. It needed to be warm and inviting—to capture the energy and passion of the Bucknell community.
Academic West is home to the social sciences and is also a dedicated space for the Bucknell Institute for Public Policy. Mixing classroom space and numerous hearth spaces, the design facilitates collaboration and dialogue between faculty and students. By using glass partitions (in lieu of walls) and expansive windows, the lines between spaces are blurred—giving indulgence to the curious. Plus there’s the “pocket areas” for individual and group study.
The facility has computers for 102 students and a Geographic Information Systems laboratory equipped with advanced mapping software and licenses for additional research tools never before available to Bucknell students. Smart classrooms let faculty control lighting, window shades, projectors, media players, and a webcam from a single touch screen.
Anchored in the new quad in Bucknell’s south campus, Academic West delivers novel ways for students to learn and collaborate.
