Reconstructed roadway provides traffic calming, pedestrian connectivity, and safer travel
With aging pavement and infrastructure and several safety concerns, a portion of US Route 119 that runs through the central business district of Youngwood Borough, Pennsylvania, needed attention. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reached out to us to help address the conditions of this section, which starts as a four-lane major arterial that transitions to a bifurcated one-way pair as it traverses through the Borough.
The roadway required total reconstruction to improve pedestrian connectivity to the nearby Five Star Trail, calm traffic speeds, improve safety, and optimize traffic flow efficacy, all while limiting right-of-way impacts. We accomplished these goals by updating the entire stormwater drainage network, providing ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps throughout the Borough, upgrading traffic signals, and integrating traffic calming and safety measures to assist with speed control throughout the town. These efforts also entailed extensive coordination with the community.
Recently completed, travelers through and residents of Youngwood enjoy safer, more efficient travel whether they are on foot or wheels.
