Better serving motorists and transit users along the busy I-95 corridor
This $140 million project was dedicated to converting the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to limited access express lanes called the 95 Express. One of the biggest design challenges was to maintain traffic on the flyovers during construction while simultaneously maintaining traffic along I-95. To overcome this hurdle, our client needed a partner that offered excellent project planning and scheduling skills combined with a dedicated team throughout the ilfe of the project. By working as a cohesive team, we were able to deliver the project with minimal interruption to traffic flow.
As lead engineers, we were responsible for project management, roadway, drainage, and bridge design elements, providing immediate congestion relief in a corridor that serves 250 to 300,000 vehicles per day. We designed plans to re-stripe I-95 and modified shoulders to provide two express lanes and four general purpose lanes in each direction. We also installed electronic open road tolling equipment, implemented electronic message signs and ramp signals, widened six twin bridges, modified flyover ramps and storm water drainage, and converted the Northwest 10 Avenue onramp to a dedicated express lane.
Services for the 95 Express Lanes project were provided by members of C3TS prior to their employment with Stantec.
