Maintaining safe roadways for communities and providing cost-effective solutions for clients
When it comes to pavement designs, achieving a balance between operational requirements, safety, cost, social effects, and environmental impacts can be a daunting task. However, thanks to our long-standing relationship with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and our dedication to enhancing roadway infrastructure, those challenges didn’t hold up improvements to the driving experience for users all across the state.
The work under this three-year, on-call agreement began with project-level destructive and non-destructive testing, evaluations, and analyses, which allowed our team to understand the current conditions of the NJDOT’s road network. Field investigations and visual condition assessments revealed the severity of the pavement distresses and the poor-performing areas that required more intensive treatments, while falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing determined the in-situ strengths of the pavement structure and subgrade.
Once the data was collected, we were able to provide NJDOT with a representative snapshot of the highway including key issues and poor-performing areas. These data summary reports were used to develop pavement recommendations that considered a range of design and construction issues, all while focusing on the needs and requirements of the NJDOT.
