SCDOT Roadway Safety Projects

Providing SCDOT with transportation engineering services for safety improvement projects

    Multiple Locations, South Carolina

Creating an overall safer and more efficient transportation experience

Over 900 fatalities occur on South Carolina roadways in an average year. The locations of each were earmarked by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) as priority safety projects because of their above-average collision rates, and we have been there to help.

Our team assists SCDOT with analyzing roadway segments by performing road safety assessments (RSAs)—we consider the safety of all road users, qualitatively estimating and reporting potential road safety issues, and identifying opportunities for safety improvements. We design each project to improve safety and efficiency for its users. With these RSAs, we can determine what areas in the community need attention, examining what elements of the road may present a safety concern, to what extent, to which road user, and under what circumstance. From there, we explore what opportunities exist to eliminate or mitigate the identified safety concerns.

Over the years, we have performed RSAs for projects in approximately 13 counties across the state—we’re proud to play a role in keeping South Carolina safe.
