Santa Barbara MTD seeks to be fully zero emission by 2030
Since running the first battery-electric bus fleet in the United States back in 1991, the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) has long been a forerunner in the battery-electric bus space. Today, they boast the second largest active electric bus fleet in California with 14 fully battery-electric buses out of a total fleet of 113. However, MTD strives to do more and plans to be fully zero emission by 2030. They engaged our professionals to help them achieve this goal.
Our team is developing an existing conditions assessment along with technology, workflow and training, preliminary CEQA/NEPA screening analyses. Additionally, we are working on a zero-emission bus (ZEB) implementation plan.
Once complete, MTD will implement the plan and continue to limit the negative impacts of transit on the Santa Barbara community.
