This zero emission bus rollout plan hopes to remove over 1,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in Orange County

Orange County Transportation Agency (OCTA) is the second largest transportation agency in Orange County, California. To meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Innovative Clean Transit regulation, OCTA plans to convert the OC bus fleet to 100 percent zero-emission technology by 2040.

We worked with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to develop their rollout plan which guides upcoming vehicle and infrastructure investments. The plan identifies ZEB technologies and provides a schedule for all ZEB and conventional bus purchases, infrastructure upgrades and modifications, and identifies costs and potential funding sources. Also identified are plans to deploy ZEBs in disadvantaged communities and a training plan for operators and maintenance staff. As a leader in adopting new technologies, the agency has been testing 10 in-service hydrogen fuel cell electric buses and recently approved the purchase of 10 plug-in battery-electric buses.

With this plan, OCTA will help contribute to the goal of meeting federal air quality standard and climate protection goals, removing over 1,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions one bus at a time.
