Flexible and adaptable, new science and technology facility aims high for sustainability standards

In support of their investment into the areas around western Colorado, Conscience Bay Company (CBC) set out to create a life science and technology focal point for members of the Boulder community. They wanted their new two-story building to be state-of-the-art in function and sustainability. CBC engaged our team to serve as lead architect, experience designer, interior designer, landscape architect, lighting design, sustainability, and signage and wayfinding consultant for this project.

Our design for the building and site strives to inspire creativity and innovation, providing a modern aesthetic that keeps the historic context of the area in mind. Due to the flexible and adaptable modular construction of the facility, it will be able to respond to market changes. Initially, it will be built with the ability to accommodate high-sensitivity research environments by incorporating a high vibration criteria and creative solutions to mitigate the effects of a passing train to the north of the site. The campus also includes electric vehicle chargers, BCycle bike sharing, secure storage for personal bikes, showers and locker rooms, an on-site café with outdoor terrace, a wellness room, and outdoor gym.

CBC aspires for this project to be Colorado’s first Net Zero and all electric life sciences building and will seek Platinum certification in both LEED v4 Core + Shell and WELL v2 Core.
