Copper Sky Lodge was designed to provide the highest quality of care to residents. Their mission is to help clients maintain and improve their independence, and the work they do ensures dignified care and compassionate assistance with things patients can no longer do themselves.
We designed Copper Sky Lodge, a 150-unit supportive living facility, and provided architectural, interior design, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services. Structurally, our team faced coordination challenges in designing the fourth-floor lounge areas. Clerestories, windows at a higher elevation than the roof, were incorporated into the architectural design to provide natural light throughout. Our structural team designed trusses and bracing to accommodate lateral stability for these partially raised roof sections in multiple isolated areas. We used concrete driven piles instead of steel driven options to address budget and schedule requirements. For the pile design, we distributed the lateral loads to the piles, and created pile caps under the concrete cores. We used concrete cores as part of our lateral system, and tied into the structural steel element for lateral stability.
Working together and creatively to incorporate the proper infrastructure into the design, we were able to give Copper Sky seniors a place that feels like home.
