Thoughtful design to make residents feel at home
Combining thoughtful design with the specific needs of the user group in a memory care facility, Stantec worked with Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects to design Benchmark’s new flagship building in Newton. We provided site design, permitting, civil engineering, and landscape architectural services.
Situated on what had been a seminary campus, Adelaide was an opportunity to bring the first memory care facility to Newton Centre. The vision was to build 50 new apartment units via the renovation of a historic residence hall, new addition, and two secure courtyards. Our design focused on understanding patient’s cognitive skills and incorporating features to engage the senses and stimulate brain health. Project amenities include an outdoor café, sculptural stone fountains, and community gardening beds with plantings designed to attract birds and butterflies.
Our team navigated numerous challenges associated with the renovation of a 200-year-old facility. We designed new utility connections and helped coordinate the replacement of outdated utilities. Using highly responsive design, Stantec delivered Benchmark’s vision to honor and respect the residents in their care.
