Improving movement throughout the Aurum Energy Park
Since 2008, Stantec has been involved in the Aurum Energy Park development in Edmonton—the most recent project includes a new 800-metre road that joins with Anthony Henday Drive.
The Aurum Arch Culvert project began when workers raised concerns about their commute to and from work. They had to travel solely through a gravel road maze where they were caught at a rail crossing with no alternate route through the industrial area. Our team was engaged to build a 21.5-metre-wide, 8-metre high, and 66-metre-long culvert to run beneath an alternate road—a magnitude that has never been seen in Alberta before—to improve connectivity within the busy industrial area. To maximize the natural setting for wildlife, our bridge engineering and landscaping teams, with guidance of our environmental services team, performed creek realignment, creek bio-engineered edges, wildlife corridor, creek stabilization, retaining walls, spillways. There was also a significant amount of planting, trees and shrubs, to ensure wildlife felt safe and secure to pass through the culvert.
Now complete, this project provides a physical connection from the Anthony Henday Drive to Aurum Energy Park—making it safer and easier for the client to carry out business activities and for animals to traverse the area.
