Involving the community in concept design paves the way for a visually impactful hospital car park to serve increasing demands
Redcliffe Hospital is an existing 250-bed facility located north of Brisbane’s central business district. Due to the hospital’s large catchment area and increased local population, Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS) was looking to develop a new multi-storey car park to alleviate existing parking issues both on site and in the surrounding community streets.
As the principal consultant, our team was engaged by MNHHS to employ all design disciplines and coordinate the tender process. We have since taken the project from concept design, under which a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) was obtained by MNHHS for development, through to developed design and construction tendering. To form concepts, we chaired various user group sessions including community engagement. Façade options underwent systematic examination to produce an ocean theme designed to appear as though the structure’s exterior is moving like a wave and represent one of the seafront suburb’s iconic community landmarks.
We are retained by MNHHS as advisors throughout the finalisation of contractor design and construction. The new Redcliffe Hospital car park will benefit staff, patients, and the community by alleviating existing parking issues and allowing patrons to park closer to the main hospital building.
