Embedding a new educational building with public and collaborative meetings spaces
When new students walk into Old Dominion University, they’re joining a long history of learning and teaching. And when walking in, they’re probably passing a prominent corner on Hampton Boulevard, right across from the convocation center.
Most of the buildings along Hampton are similar: they’re functional and full of right angles. At a spot in the campus that was so iconic to both new and graduating students, Old Dominion wanted to put up an emblem to education.
The new education building, with a graceful tower and embedded with public and collaborative spaces, will draw the eye of all students, wherever they are on their path to graduation. It will speak to the value inherent in educating educators. The new building includes the multi-purpose auditorium, learning commons theatre, dean’s conference room, and doctoral defense room. The design is pursuing LEED Silver Certification, and exemplifies the Old Dominion commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, and service.
