Establishing a viable and sustainable facility that will provided an increased range of services to benefit the community
When a voluntary steering group, formed of 12 village residents, ascertained (through community consultation) that there was a need for community facilities within the village, plans for the Ochiltree Community Hub (OCH) started taking form. The OCH would replace the former community centre and library, which had closed and been demolished. Our job? We delivered the civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services required for the development of the new, single-storey community centre.
The design team, led by architects Anderson Bell + Christie, were appointed to deliver up to RIBA Stage 2 design duties and included a funding application through the National Lottery Community Fund. The application was successful, and OCH invited the project team to proceed until RIBA Stage 7.
The OCH provides multi-use community facilities including a community hall, café, library, and meeting spaces—improving the community’s health and wellbeing, social inclusion, and social capital. Profit generated is re-invested in the facility and services supplied through building sustainability into all activities.
