Bermondsey Spa

Our fourth commission over the last six years for Hyde Housing.

  • Southwark, London

    Southwark, London

2,000 new homes, two health centres, youth and play facilities, 2.5 hectares of open space, shops, and food.

The London Borough of Southwark recognised the area’s need for renewal to encourage future community development and make better use of public assets in the Bermondsey Spa area. Hyde Housing appointed our team to assist with transport planning and enabling infrastructure advice.

Traffic and transport advice were needed on the issued plot developments, negotiating with Transport for London for a new service route from Jamaica Road into the retail area. We also provided noise, air quality, preliminary BREEAM assessment for the planning application, as well as structural and civil engineering services. Working closely with the client during the pre-planning phases, we selected a variety of concrete options for each project to suit contractor preferences.

The redevelopment now provides over 2,000 new homes (40% of which are part of an affordable housing initiative), two health centres, youth and play facilities, 2.5 hectares of re-landscaped open space, shops, and food retail. The regeneration of Bermondsey Spa has transformed it from an area in decline into a highly desirable place to live. Testament to the project’s success? There are now more than 15,000 residents living in this vibrant community, enjoying an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and busy weekend markets.
