A creative approach brings Western Union’s accomplishments to life, leaving employees and visitors inspired

Few companies have the rich, colorful history or the track-record of positively impacting people’s lives around the globe, as Western Union. As one of America’s greatest and longest standing technology companies, Western Union depends on its ability to attract and retain the brightest minds in the technology industry. Their competition is formidable. As the company grew and evolved, the physical environment at the world headquarters campus, in Englewood, Colorado, fell out of step with the fast-paced, amenity-rich, employee-centric, tech office scene.

Working with Western Union, we developed a powerful vision that encouraged an entrenched workforce to abandon familiar working tendencies and methodologies in favor of an entirely new paradigm for the workplace, with an unprecedented emphasis on communication, innovation, and collaboration. Research ensued, conventions were challenged, employees were reorganized, the corporate culture and workspace was rapidly dismantled and reassembled into a highly collaborative, brand immersive, vibrant expression of the mission and values that have sustained the Western Union culture through its remarkable sixteen decades of success.

Most Western Union employees never meet the people whose lives benefit from their hard work. To enhance the sense of mission and satisfaction for all, and to celebrate the successes of their efforts, graphics within the workspace tell customer stories, infuse meaning, and connect each employee directly to the Western Union purpose.

A series of conspicuously social, highly collaborative spaces carved from previously underutilized areas within the campus now embody the company’s continuing commitment to collaboration and innovation. The newly renovated Western Union Café, with its fresh, digitally enabled Stadium Club and Food Truck Café, functions as not only indispensable workspace, but has become the social and symbolic heart of the campus.
