US 19 Highway Design
Highly traveled roadways need constant maintenance and updating to continue to meet demands. The 3.7-mile (5.9-kilometre) segment of US 19 and its six lanes running through Hernando County is no exception. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) selected our professional engineers to mill, resurface, and widen the part of US 19 from CR 578 to Toucan Trail.
The purpose of the project was to extend the service life of this roadway and address any ADA deficiencies along the corridor, as well as study the multi-modal needs along this corridor. In line with these requirements, we provided engineering services for the roadway, drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization, and lighting design for this project, as well as right-of-way mapping and surface utility engineering services. We also developed a design for additional widening and a sidewalk within the existing right of way, while minimizing conflicts with the nine utilities along the project site.
Ultimately, careful planning and coordination paid off, and FDOT succeed in improving the experience of highway users along this portion of US 19 on schedule and within budget.
