Long-term program success starts with building and fostering relationships
The City of Trinidad needed help obtaining necessary funding to address several brownfield sites around the community. From an initial grant application in 2014 through today, the City found a partner they could trust in our environmental services professionals.
In 2014, we helped prepare an application for a $500,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Coalition Assessment Grant that kickstarted Trinidad’s brownfield program. The grant funded several environmental site assessments and surveys and allowed for the management of multiple assessments simultaneously.
In 2021, we helped expand the brownfield program by securing two additional EPA brownfield grants—a $600,000 Brownfield Assessment Coalition Grant to continue community-wide assessments, and a $500,000 Site-Specific Cleanup Grant for the historic Fox West Theatre in downtown Trinidad.
Recently, we partnered with a local nonprofit to apply for a FY2023 EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant for a vacant historic school and convent building planned for renovation as workforce housing.
The long-term success of this brownfields program has hinged on building relationships and trust with members of this rural community and property owners. We have also built productive working relationships with the EPA and various project managers, collaborating to navigate the often-complex path to brownfield revitalization.
