Reviving stagnant spaces to bring restaurant, retail, athletic, and community services to an underserved neighborhood
St. Philip’s School and Community Center (St. Philip’s) has dedicated themselves to revitalizing the Forest District Neighborhood in South Dallas, a minority community striving to overcome economic disparities. St. Philip’s engaged our team to help them attain grant funding and assist on relevant projects.
We’ve secured $1.8 million in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants over three years. With this funding, we’ve worked with St. Philip’s implement a number of projects that support environmental assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment.
One project is addressing impacts from dry cleaning solvents in six buildings slated to become commercial and community spaces. We designed and installed a remediation option to improve and protect indoor air quality. The solution uses sub-slab depressurization systems that will both prevent vapor from seeping into the buildings and recover sub-slab vapor. The systems comply with EPA Vapor Intrusion Screening Level and Regional Screening Level criteria.
St. Philip’s efforts toward reviving these buildings will encourage local commerce and innovation by transforming unused sites into welcoming spaces for all.
