Sitting on the edge of a migratory wildlife corridor, the facility integrates sustainability and functionality
Taking a cue from the world-renowned beauty that surrounds it, the new Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit (START) Bus Operations & Maintenance Facility provides both an impressive setting and abundant opportunities for integrating sustainable site design.
START’s new facility includes administrative offices, interior bus storage for the fleet of 36 buses, a nine-bay fleet maintenance facility, in-line fueling and drive-thru bus wash at the entry to the bus storage area, and seven units of employee housing. The project is designed sustainably and includes features such as extensive use of natural daylighting, green roof, energy-efficient building envelope, and radiant floor heating.
Sitting on the edge of a migratory wildlife corridor, the building’s indoor operations design helps protect the immediate environment by minimizing noise and light pollution that might otherwise disrupt wildlife patterns. Blending the need for functionality in the facility with environmentally conscious design makes this building smart—from the inside out.
