Offering areas for activity as well as respite
Opened in 1977, the Pearl Street Mall is located in the heart of downtown Boulder. The four-block, open-air urban mall is labeled as one of the country’s most successful pedestrian malls owing much of its success to its people friendly amenities and college town atmosphere. But after 30 years of community use, the area needed a facelift. The City of Boulder reassembled the original design team asking us to infuse new life and character to the area. We were up to the task, providing new ideas for theme and visual character, site furnishings, feature elements and signage/graphics.
A new 20-foot natural boulder/fountain, more seating, larger shaded areas and a children’s water play zone provide areas of activity and respite, improving the visitor experience. Interpretive panels throughout the mall tell the story of Boulder’s beginnings through to present day allowing visitors and residents alike the opportunity to connect with the heart of the city.
In conjunction with this work, we’ve renovated over a dozen adjacent building exteriors and interiors including the Boulder Bookstore, Siena Square, Flatirons Bank, and Fresh Produce.
