Reinvigorating Seattle Center through community and the arts
Just steps away from Seattle’s iconic Space Needle sits Seattle Center’s shining jewel—Chihuly Garden and Glass. Featuring a garden, glasshouse, and interior exhibits, the installations set the standard for modern art.
Inside the building, you’ll find significant secondary spaces. There is a 90-seat café with additional outdoor dining, a 50 seat multi-use theater and lecture space, retail and lobby spaces, and extensive public site enhancements beyond the Garden. In consideration of best practices for the environment, the client decided to repurpose the existing building for the exhibition hall, add garden space, and design a glass house as the centerpiece of the project.
For this project, we provided lighting, acoustical, and electrical design. The scope of work included a 22,000-square foot remodel and a 10,000-square foot addition to the south Fun Forest building on Seattle Center campus that will be used as exhibition space for Dale Chihuly’s glass art.
