An inspiring, sustainable community space for learning and connecting with others
The City of Greater Geelong wanted the new Armstrong Creek Library and Community Hub to become a marquee development and achieve an Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Green Star rating, benefiting the residents for years to come. The City’s designer, Buchan Architects, worked with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation to create a “Living Water” narrative for the building that will house a library, community user groups, learning spaces, activity spaces, amenities for public uses, and public art spaces to service the needs of a growing and diverse local community.
To help realize this vision and sustainability goals, the City and Buchanan engaged our team to provide structural, civil, and building services engineering as well as survey and town planning services.
As part of our assignment, we worked with the ESD team to provide low carbon concrete options and with the suppliers to specify a product that was structurally suitable. The use of low carbon concrete is a key feature for the whole three-level superstructure to achieve ESD requirements.
The construction of this state-of-the-art, environmentally sensitive facility in the town centre is now complete and open to the public.
