Connecting northeast Calgary’s newest communities to Stoney Trail, part of Calgary’s Ring Road
Stoney Trail and 11 Street in northeast Calgary is the future home to two new communities. Our team was engaged to design a new interchange connecting the neighbourhoods to Stoney Trail, a key segment of the Calgary Ring Road. With the communities still in development, futureproofing the interchange for increased traffic is key.
Our design included a bridge, roads, and street lighting, while we also undertook stormwater reviews, sanitary and water line crossings, environment assessments, and contract administration. The bridge will be owned and operated by Alberta Transportation; however, we are working with The City of Calgary on the design and construction of the interchange, so the design needs to adhere to the requirements of both organizations. Once adjacent communities begin to develop and traffic crossing the bridge increases, the steel girder design will be able to facilitate future widening.
Our team is well placed for this project, having experience with both Alberta Transportation and The City of Calgary. This connection to the ring road will open a crucial and efficient route from these upcoming neighbourhoods to the rest of the city.
