La Grande Alliance Infrastructure Program Feasibility Study - Phase 1
The La Grande Alliance (LGA), formed by an agreement between the Cree Nation and the Quebec government, aims to plan and carry out a large infrastructure program over 30 years. Their objective is to improve the mobility of people and goods, enhance natural resources, and develop the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory. The Cree Development Corporation appointed the Vision Eeyou Istchee consortium, which includes Stantec, Systra, and Groupe Desfor, to carry out a feasibility study of various parts of this program.
Our team has contributed to several stages under Phase 1 of the program including socio-environmental studies, hydrological and hydraulic studies, climate change impact assessments, and environmental inventories. We also executed field inspections, designed a railway, rehabilitated existing access roads and bridges, and conducted economic and financial analyses.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with local communities, involving them in every step. We gave special attention to community members’ concerns, environmental protection, and the local vision for sustainable development of the territory.
We are continuing to collaborate on the La Grande Alliance program by facilitating the communication stage of the study with communities and interested parties.
