Improving pedestrian safety and protecting the community

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority wanted to improve pedestrian safety along the Ogden Point Breakwater, a half-mile walk and major landmark used regularly by both locals and tourists. Our team worked collaboratively with the Authority to develop conceptual railing designs and renderings along with cost estimates for the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority Board.

The Board chose to move forward with design and construction of the curved aluminum post and stainless steel wire railing option, which was the best fit for the site and the anticipated community use. After selection and in collaboration with the Authority, the railing design was fine-tuned to provide features which simplified installation, maintenance, and repair.

Once the railing details had been developed, two galvanized steel stair access points were added to further accommodate divers, fishers, and other tourists or members of the community who wished to engage more closely with the sea.
