Lower greenhouse gas emissions key feature of new school
To increase its enrolment capacity, the Centre de services scolaires des Affluents wanted to build a new energy-efficient elementary school in Mascouche. They engaged us as part of the team to help.
Our mechanical and electrical engineering team paid particular attention to energy efficiency in our designs. We combined geothermal energy and electricity to supply the building with renewable energy. A centralized ventilation system, combined with an energy recovery unit, provides heating and cooling. Our team also incorporated an LED lighting system. All these measures helped the new school achieve energy consumption that’s 27 percent lower than the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) standard in place at the time of construction.
Today, Des Sommets Elementary School not only provides students with a three-story, stimulating learning environment, but also supports sustainability with low greenhouse gas emissions.
