Designing spaces that foster genuine learning opportunities
Frisco Independent School District (Frisco ISD) wanted their new Minett Elementary School to provide students and instructors with a learning environment that supports future ready education. They reached out to our team to help.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we carried out the entire visioning and planning process virtually. However, this helped create a more open, comfortable, and engaging atmosphere where participants expressed their ideas with hope toward a post-pandemic future.
The desire for a co-teaching model drove the design of grade level pods that could support a variety of instructional models and promote interactive, collaborative learning. Organized into two houses, the pods connect directly to the central learning commons and adjacent media spaces. Transparency throughout places learning on display and allows for passive supervision. Spatial diversity, foldable glass walls, and intentional furniture design in the variety space sizes and types enable flexibility and adaptability.
Frisco ISD intends the school to be an incubator for the district, utilizing a variety of instructional models that will have a profound impact on educational delivery and the broader community.
