Integration of critical infrastructure services creates a state-of-the-art regional health facility

St. Stephen's Hospital in Hervey Bay, Queensland, was redeveloped as part of a staged master plan and became Australia’s first digital (paperless) hospital with integrated patient records and clinical systems. Stage 1 also included the expansion of surgical suites, inpatient, outpatient and back-of-house accommodation, plus a central energy plant. Our multidisciplinary team provided electrical, mechanical, dry fire protection and vertical transportation plus solar PV system consultancy for full design, documentation and construction services.

Site power infrastructure and air conditioning (A/C) were critical elements of the project. The onsite data center required redundant A/C and power to deliver full functionality in the event of power outages. Additional system resilience measures included reticulation of duplicated fibre optic cabling between communications racks via redundant paths throughout the facility.

Our co-ordinated multidisciplinary approach successfully integrated site services and considered future expansion plans at the hospital, providing a robust facility with a focus on sustainability and patient care that will benefit the local community for years to come.

"Stantec have provided a consistently high quality of engineering and technical advice to the project and have generally exceeded all client expectations. In my dealings with Ashley Holm and Andrew Bell, the electrical and mechanical engineers on the project, requests were always answered in a prompt and clear manner. Their proactive and professional approach makes Stantec a pleasure to deal with."  Peter Davidson (Project Director)
