Creating great event routes for athletes without disrupting Melbourne’s general public
Starting in 2006, Run for the Kids has been a highlight in many Victorian runners’ calendars. Not only is it a fun and fitness-focused community event, it’s also a major fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital of Victoria’s Good Friday Appeal, helping to fund state-of-the-art equipment, people-centred care programs, and ground-breaking research. Attracting around 30,000 runners a year, both courses travel over the Bolte Bridge and through the Domain Tunnel.
Since the event’s inception, we have assisted in developing the various event routes, associated road closures, and detour strategies to provide a great experience for participants, while minimising disruption to the general public. This includes coordinating with various stakeholders, such as the Department of Transport and Planning, Yarra Trams, TransUrban and City of Melbourne. We also prepare the detailed implementation plans and help coordinate and audit the installation on event day.
The event has run smoothly each year, facilitating healthy, social community gatherings and life-changing fundraising efforts.
