The Good Hotel took up berth in London in 2016, where it is to stay for five years, after being transported across the North Sea from Amsterdam
The Good Hotel is a hotel with purpose—its profits don’t go to the owners or stakeholders; they go back into the business. How? By offering training and jobs to individuals struggling to find employment.
The 148-room hotel, built on a large floating platform, originally opened in Amsterdam in June 2015 as a pop-up social enterprise project. Its aim is to provide opportunities to local people who have struggled to find employment and are receiving welfare support. In 2016, the Good Hotel proposed to transfer the vessel from Amsterdam to London. To facilitate this transfer and to obtain planning and technical approvals, our team provided transport, noise, ecology and flood risk/drainage services.
The hotel is now successfully docked in the historical Royal Victoria Docks, London. As well as offering opportunities to unemployed people in the community, it will also support local tradespeople and (where possible) use ingredients, materials and labor that are locally sourced.
