The best designs go beyond buildability. Our approach embraces functional, sustainable elements that meet the needs of end users.
Bristol & Bath Science Park is a world-class business and innovation environment that provides space and support for science and technology businesses to accelerate their growth and success. The scheme is partnered with the universities Bath, Bristol, and the West of England, as well as science and aerospace industries. One of the buildings is home to the world's largest solar powered chandelier, designed by British artist Luke Jerram.
We supported the project from the initial visioning and planning stages through to detailed design, procurement, and site supervision of the primary infrastructure. The original masterplan was completely re-envisioned away from a car-dominated campus, to a space designed around people—complete with pedestrian and cycle permeability and high-quality public transport provision.
Through our collaborative approach to design, we worked closely with the masterplanning team, local authorities, and stakeholders to design the United Kingdom’s first ‘Manual for Streets’. It’s inspired by commercial public realm, which utilises visual cues to define the streetscape, putting people first, and encourages slow vehicle speeds. Now complete, the sustainable transport strategy includes an on-site electric car club, electric car charging points, bike hire, high quality cycle facilities, bus gateways, and a mass-transit interchange.
