Connecting people to places while minimizing impacts to natural resources and the surrounding environment
When the word parkway is mentioned in our office we’re not referring to just a broad landscaped thoroughfare, we are referring to connecting people to places. From tourists to local residents, the Weikva Parkway will impact everyone in a positive way. This major transportation artery, which protects the environmentally sensitive Wekiva River Basin, will complete the Western Beltway around metropolitan Orlando. It provides higher capacity and safer east-west travel in three counties; a nice alternative to Interstate 4. Did we mention that it also minimizes impacts to the Wekiva Basin’s natural resources and improves upon the connectivity of the area’s wildlife habitat? The gopher tortoises, owls, and bats are proud to call this place home.
The Wekiva Parkway is a cooperative effort between Florida Department of Transportation, Orlando–Orange County Expressway Authority, and the Florida's Turnpike Enterprise. This estimated $1.7 billion project includes $500 million of non-toll road improvements. The 25 mile tolled expressway relieves U.S. 441, S.R. 46 and other area roads of traffic congestion resulting from growth and travel between Orange, Lake and Seminole Counties.
