Providing critical access to advanced instruments and collaboration opportunities
Stem cell research has produced remarkable, life-changing, and life-saving results in medicine, and the race to find more applications continues. As part of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) at UC - Merced, the Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry (SCIF) provides stem cell researchers throughout the State access to advanced instruments, techniques, and collaborators for single cell analysis.
To enable efficient and effective operations, we provided design services for the complex physical plant supporting the Foundry. The overall project was divided into a wet lab facility and a cleanroom facility. The project included conversion of existing shelled space into new Class 1000 and Class 100 Clean Rooms for micro/nano fabrication, facilities for human and mouse stem cell culture, quantitative cell imaging, and workstations. The ancillary core services include materials characterization, vivarium for animal housing, and computational biology. The project also included an additional renovation to accommodate a Service Chase, Gowning Room, H-Occupancy Chemical Storage, an Imaging Workstations Room, several Cell Culture Labs, a Flow Cytometry Lab, a Microscopy Lab, and associated support infrastructure.
We were proud to support this important medical research facility in its mission to advance stem cell knowledge and applications. The exacting details and complex specifications provided an exceptional opportunity for our multidisciplinary teams.
Services for this project were completed by the employees of GL Planning & Design prior to their employment at Stantec.
