Connecting Pittsfield Charter Township
Pittsfield Charter township was looking to connect residential developments with recreational and open spaces within the community. The solution? A shared-use path.
For this project, we provided engineering, design, bidding assistance, and construction services to install a two mile long shared use path along Platt Road between Ellsworth Road and US-12. It was contracted as a Michigan Department of Transportation local service project, and was constructed using surface transportation program enhancements and high priority project funding from the Federal Highway Administration. Our design included a 14-foot-wide flexible pavement hot mix asphalt surface, 2-foot clear zone, storm water improvements, wetland mitigation, prefabricated pedestrian bridge over the Koch Warner Drain, signing, stripping, landscape improvements and restoration.
Eventually, as more sections were completed, the Platt Road Greenway became a part of a much larger network of trails that enabled township residents to enjoy safe, non-motorized travel throughout their community, neighboring communities and beyond.
