An urban park that provides the perfect spot for relaxation along the Camden waterfront
Our team needed to overcome several design challenges that this site presented to make the vision of landscape designers, Copley Wolff Design Group, a reality. The landscape design called for a focal point park to be set among several visitor attractions to provide a relaxing spot along the riverfront. The problem was the riverfront location was once primarily an industrial district and contained environmentally hazardous materials. It was also structurally unsuitable to support the proposed improvements, specifically a large fountain included in the design. Located at the center of the park, the dazzling fountain sprays over 15 feet high and contains a variety of spray nozzles and light-emitting diode accent lighting used to create water displays for visitors.
Our civil and structural engineers worked in concert to develop a plan that would support the fountain infrastructure. By creating a network of pile supports we were able to support the fountain infrastructure, site structures, and new utility vaults. Our team also developed a soil reuse and capping plan that met the requirements for dealing with the hazardous soils. This cleared the path for the resulting park which provides a relaxing urban plaza along the emerging, restored waterfront.
