Placing this financial firm at the crossroads of Boston’s innovation economy
Once a neglected clutch of warehouses and former industrial buildings, Boston’s Seaport District is emerging as an engine of the city’s innovation economy. One Channel Center threads into its context of historic brick warehouses while signaling a bold new trajectory for this neighborhood.
Organized by articulated glass panels at the entry, the building’s massing is divided into two halves, which are wrapped in terracotta and brown precast concrete panels reminiscent of the neighborhood’s masonry buildings. Vibrant colored glass panels punctuate the façade, while varied window openings and sandblasting details break down the scale of the building. Adjoining a new 1.2-acre public park, One Channel Center incorporates strategic sustainable design elements to achieve LEED Silver certification.
