More than a place to stay: The Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City redefines luxury while staying true to its roots

Located in the heart of Accra’s government and diplomatic district, the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City was developed as part of a larger master plan intended to support the city’s growing role as a regional hub for business, diplomacy, and tourism. The challenge was to create a hotel that respected cultural context, functioned reliably within a dense urban environment, and accommodated a wide range of hospitality, retail, and civic uses.

Stantec contributed design services that informed key planning and spatial decisions within the Stantec designed master plan, helping guide how the hotel integrates with surrounding embassies and institutions. Collaboration with Looney & Associates supported interior environments that blend European hospitality traditions with architectural references drawn from Ghanaian culture. This approach is reflected in the hotel’s central courtyard, which is inspired by traditional gathering spaces and serves as an organizing element that brings activity, daylight, and social connection into the heart of the building.

Planning and engineering input also focused on operational reliability. Building systems, including on site backup power and centralized utilities, were coordinated to support self sufficient operation and maintain guest comfort during service interruptions.

Rising seven stories and accommodating 269 guest rooms along with event spaces, retail, and amenities, the completed hotel delivers a flexible and resilient destination within Accra’s upscale district. Through collaborative planning and thoughtful design integration, the project supports long term performance while contributing to the cultural and economic life of the city.
