Florida spring waters inspire a unique mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment options

Disney Springs provides guests with an eclectic, contemporary mix of boutique shops, unique flagship anchor stores, restaurants, and entertainment options in Central Florida. As the prime consultant, we redeveloped three former destinations into one cohesive brand to improve the visitor experience.

In our unified design, thematic elements define and support the story through the use of hardscape, landscape, lighting, sound, water features, artwork, signage, and site future. As a key feature of the redevelopment, our design approach relies on recreating a natural Florida spring—over one acre (nearly half a hectare) is covered with nearly one million gallons (3.8 million litres) of water and edge conditions, water clarity, sand and rock formations, and native landscape are emulated.

Seeking a strategy to better connect existing Market Place venues to the main portion of Disney Springs, our design added a themed causeway across the lake allowing guests to circle around the Market Place without backtracking. To keep guests safe and comfortable, demolition and new construction was scheduled at night. During the day, we used multiple strategies for maintaining guest access to the main circulation paths and promenades.
