Cost-effective solutions for maximizing the movement of traffic on a hurricane evacuation route

As the primary hurricane evacuation route in the state, additional capacity is critical to maximizing the movement of traffic during a hurricane. Stantec is helping meet this objective and finding cost effective solutions to do so.

With a thorough analysis of the project limits, Stantec provided the optimum design and permitting solutions for this 1.8 mile segment of I-75 from Luckett Road to SR 80 in Lee County. To control costs, our highway designers and stormwater engineers designed the project to maximize available storage in the infield areas of the Luckett Road interchange and reduced the right-of-way that the Florida Department of Transportation was required to purchase.

The team designed this segment with roadside slopes and stormwater conveyance systems to accommodate potential expansion to eight lanes. Stormwater management facilities (offsite ponds) were also designed and permitted to accommodate the ultimate 10 lane typical cross section in which the entire roadway will need to be reconstructed.
