Spurring economic development with bridge and roadway improvements
In an effort to bolster economic growth, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) sought to construct a new bridge for Stuenkel Road over I-57, roadway from Harlem to Central, and a new full interchange at I-57. Our team was selected to provide contract administration and Phase III construction engineering services.
The project was divided into three smaller projects to minimize conflicts and maintain schedules. The success of such a complex undertaking relies heavily on effective communication and coordination, and we worked extensively with IDOT utility permitting personnel, contractors, and utility owners (ComED, AT&T, Comcast, and Nicor) to maintain existing services along the route. We also worked with local authorities having jurisdiction and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Our services included on-site construction inspection and observation, survey control layout and verification, material testing and reporting, erosion control inspections, completing traffic control inspection reports, and job finalization and closeout.
IDOT’s careful attention to the many details of this project helped lead to its successful completion.
