When a stadium is more than just a playing field, deliberate architectural design unites community, fans, and athletes.
The Alvin Independent School District (ISD) stadium currently supports three existing high schools but could accommodate as many as eight in the future. Beyond athletic events, Freedom Field was also designed to consider community uses.
As prime architectural consultant, our team designed the multipurpose stadium to accommodate many community activities and sports teams. On game nights, customizable colored lighting on the home press box, visitor grandstands, and at the fieldhouse entry create a dramatic experience as teams take the field from the locker room. We designed the stadium with a mid-level concourse to ensure that no play is missed even when fans visit concessions or the restroom. The two-story press box offers a lower floor for coaches and scouts with an outdoor film deck and an upper floor with a large multi-purpose suite for board members and guests.
A community room was also incorporated and will be used almost daily to support game day events, teacher training, board meetings, weddings, fundraisers, and birthday parties. The hall of fame anchors the south entry—featuring a large glass wall with incredible field views—and will exhibit historical community items to add to the sense of pride Freedom Field instills within the district.
