Frederick Road Bike Path from Springtown Road to Milestone Manor Lane
With no sidewalks along Frederick Road (MD 355), the community in Montgomery County has historically been reliant on automobiles to get around. With an increasing demand for multi-modal transportation, something needed to be done to ensure people were able to commute safely—that’s where we came in.
The design and construction of this new shared-use path supports a goal of safe, accessible transportation, and it also provides additional access to schools, neighborhoods, churches, shopping, and parks. Our design team provided preliminary and final design for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, as well as engineering services during construction. A pedestrian bridge was designed and constructed to cross a stream and avoid sensitive environmental impacts. The project includes sidewalk ramps, safety fencing, bus stop modifications, storm drainage, storm water management (SWM), erosion and sediment control, signing and marking, temporary traffic control, right-of-way acquisitions, and utility pole relocations.
The completed shared-use path is now open for use by bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages and abilities. It provides a safe mode of travel for those with a destination in mind or for recreation.
