Alleviating congestion and increasing connectivity to Chicago’s western suburbs and O’Hare airport
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is working to alleviate congestion and increase connectivity between Chicago and its western suburbs. To prepare for construction of a new Cumberland Flyover ramp and additional lanes for the widening of I-190 and I-90, IDOT needed to construct a new bridge to carry East River Road over the Kennedy Expressway and CTA Blue Line. IDOT reached out to us to help achieve this goal.
We provided contract administration and Phase III construction engineering services through construction and close-out. Our services included on-site construction inspection and observation, survey control layout and verification, material testing and reporting, erosion control inspections, completing traffic control inspection reports, and job finalization and closeout. The project required extensive coordination with an adjacent Illinois State Toll Highway Authority project to the west and a separate IDOT project to the east. The project also included a full detour of East River Road, requiring communication and coordination with local businesses and the 41st Ward Alderman’s office.
Ultimately, IDOT completed the project with limited inconvenience to residents.
