Caldwell Station Creek Greenway

The Caldwell Station Creek Greenway adds to 40+ miles of built trails in Mecklenburg County. It provides a safe, scenic bicycle/pedestrian connection between neighborhoods, schools, parks and commercial/retail services.

Stantec helped plan, design and implement the project, which was partly funded by a NCDOT Transportation Improvement Program grant. In the first phase, we analyzed, evaluated, and developed preliminary cost estimates for potential trail routes. After recommending an alignment, we generated public input and excitement through community meetings, stakeholder interviews and site walks.

With the route set, we kicked off the design and permitting process. The complex design incorporated boardwalks; stream, wetland and roadway crossings; and connections to neighborhoods and future parks. We also took advantage of state-planned improvements to an environmentally sensitive refuge area, preparing environmental documentation to give greenway users access to the area’s wetlands, plants, and wildlife. We continued to work with the town, contractor and inspection teams through bidding and construction to make sure the final project reflected the original vision for the greenway.

Amber Coleman, Associate, Water

Everything we do as scientists is based on methodological evaluation and the ability to convey those findings to others.

Jeff Rice, Senior Principal

I like to connect with our clients and the people who will use our design. To see someone enjoying what we designed makes the work worth it.

Mike Rutkowski, Senior Principal, Complete Streets Leader

When we work with our clients, we simply want to create a place where our families would want to be.

Paul Roepnack, Principal

The son of a general contractor, I grew up with my feet in the concrete. My dream was to construct buildings. Now I design multi-million dollar structures.
