A plan for future growth built around the guiding principles of equity, health, and resilience
The City of Annapolis, Maryland was looking to update their Comprehensive Plan, with the last iteration being from 2009. As stewards of the process, we are helping the community identify its vision for the future as it relates to resiliency, land use, urban design, transportation, and economic development.
Building on the 2009 plan, findings from a recent economic profile report, market analysis, and a five-year housing and community development plan, our team has led the development of land use recommendations, urban design concepts, and public engagement tools for community outreach. When COVID-19 impacts began affecting the area, we pivoted select in-person events to virtual events. Our team designed and facilitated a series of interactive workshops—including polls and a visual preference survey—to gather community input and create a framework for future redevelopment opportunities. Another major element of the plan was the creation of a master plan for the West Annapolis neighborhood. This provides a vision for the development of a walkable, mixed-use neighborhood in an auto-oriented area of the city.
With a focus on housing choice and affordability, the Annapolis Ahead plan introduces new planning and urban design concepts and place types to respond to the City’s emerging need to address growth management and redevelopment.
