Creating a sustainable community in North Whiteley
The new North Whiteley sustainable community will include 3,500 dwellings, a secondary school, two primary schools, a nursery and two local community centres, as well as playing fields, protected wildlife corridors, and significant investment in local transport infrastructure.
Our role? Key involvement in the visioning, masterplanning, and promotion of the development for over 15 years. Over this time, our team of multi-disciplinary engineers and planners have successfully supported the allocation of the site within the Winchester local plan. The team engaged proactively with the local community, businesses, and councils to gain overwhelming support—and secured outline planning permission in August 2018.
As part of our work, we prepared a transport business case in line with the Department for Transport’s transport business case and WebTAG guidance documents. The business case was submitted to the Solent LEP to request £14 million for funding to support the delivery of the transport scheme that would facilitate the housing development and supporting services. They awarded the full sum sought by the Consortium.
Work has since started on site at North Whiteley, and we continue to support the Consortium through reserved matters applications and delivery of strategic infrastructure across the site, as we enter the exciting new phase of building this new community.
